My take: Senator Russ Feingold (D) is running for president. John Dean is trying to sell books. And the President is not trying to collect evidence for a criminal trial. He's trying to protect America from another 9/11.

I've never had much respect for John Dean. I've always thought he was a man who did the right thing (testify in front of Sam Ervin's Watergate committee) for the wrong reasons (purely to save his own neck.) I haven't studied out the current spying issue enough to have a firm opinion on it, but I don't attach much weight to Mr. Dean's views.
